Here at Darver House, we have a small walled garden, located on our family farm just north of Kilkenny City – near Jenkinstown Park. The garden which served as a plant nursery for many years is currently undergoing a small renovation – repurposed to be an ornamental garden with a functional kitchen garden and will shortly be open to the public, pandemic restrictions allowing of course!
For the last 35 years Eva Holmes has been teaching gardening and floral art classes on site at Darver House in her purpose built classroom nicknamed ‘The Greenhouse’. Eva runs two-hour classes and day workshops frequently throughout the year, catering to learners of every skill level. The classes have a great, fun atmosphere and many of the participants have been coming to Darver House for years. Eva enjoys teaching people new skills as well as having a bit of fun and hopes people will go home relaxed and enthusiastic about their own gardens. During the last year, the classes have been taking place online over Zoom! You can view some online tutorials here. Please visit the Courses page to learn more and to see any upcoming classes.
At Darver House we also supplies wedding flowers. Eva knows that flowers form a big part of your Wedding day, not only do they compliment your dress, they also look great in photos. If you are looking for something special for your wedding flowers, look no further. We also offer something for you pre-wedding in the form of hen parties! Get your bridal party together and make some flower crowns or whatever you fancy – Prosecco and nibbles included. Please visit the Wedding Flowers page to learn more.
If you are enthusiastic about flowers and plants and are local to Kilkenny, why not think about joining the local Kilkenny flower club? The club has been running for the last forty years, with meetings every Thursday. More information available here.
